Property Description

Sleeps  2 to 4
Ortonovo, Cinque Terre – Liguria

Sleeping 2 to 4 people, this elegantly converted and restored country villa was originally used as a barn in past centuries and still stands just across the courtyard from the grand farmhouse – likewise now renovated – that it once served.
Set high among the lush green hills which border Liguria and Tuscany and surrounded by a vast olive grove, it guarantees utmost privacy and seclusion and occupies the perfect spot for peaceful relaxation. In addition, the villa’s outdoor jacuzzi pool invites you to bathe at leisure in its heated waters, undisturbed by the clamour of the outside world!
From this privileged elevated position, extensive scenic views can be enjoyed, stretching right from the Apuan Alps inland to the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. The Cinque Terre villages too are very close at hand.

The property extends over three floors, as follows: At ground-floor level, a former winter conservatory has now been transformed into a lovely, light-filled dining-room, incorporating a lounge area and kitchenette. This modern fitted kitchen is fully equipped with oven; fridge/freezer, dishwasher; toaster; and espresso and American coffee-makers. Issuing from here, the utility room accommodates a washing-machine and dryer.
Positioned just outside the dining-room, a few external steps lead you upstairs to the first-floor sleeping quarters. These consist of a romantic double bedroom, with ensuite bathroom with shower, as well as a lovely adjoining terrace, furnished with table, chairs and sunshade.
From this level a wooden staircase proceeds to the top floor, where the second double bedroom is located, complete with its own ensuite bathroom with shower and a luxurious sauna, for when you feel like pampering yourself!
The house is tastefully and stylishly furnished and decorated throughout and careful attention has been paid to every detail of comfort and convenience a guest could require. Both bedrooms are fitted with air-conditioning; Sat.TV; CD-player; and mini-bar. The first-floor bedroom also provides a safe. Embroidered towels and bathrobes are likewise supplied. At the further disposal of guests are the following: a cell phone; breakfast provided, but not served; organic produce from the villa’s vegetable garden.
Villetta Gardenia is indeed surrounded by an extensive garden, brightly planted with colorful, scented seasonal flowers. Beyond this, a large olive grove forms a restful backdrop. An elegant wooden gazebo, appointed with table and wickerwork chairs, allows you to enjoy this beautiful natural setting in welcome shade or to linger over breakfast, lunch or dinner al fresco. Completing this idyllic scene is the spacious, warm-water jacuzzi (3×3 metres), encircled by tempting sunshades and comfortable loungers, and with its own hot, outdoor shower alongside.

Please note: The property-owners themselves reside in the converted farmhouse building situated in the same grounds, just a few metres from Villetta Gardenia. However, each house has its own private entrance and garden and it goes without saying that the property-owners are at all times fully respectful of their guests’ privacy.

The setting is very unique. The charming owners occupy the space across a beautiful terrace. The two bedrooms with air conditioning and Satellite TV are quite cozy and both have very modern and beautiful bathrooms. The spacious kitchen is the main place to hang out. The washer and dryer are right off the kitchen. The fixtures are top-of-the-line in every way. The villa is isolated on a sloping olive grove, but overlooks a lovely village scene with the Ligurian Sea in the distance. We took advantage of the owners willingness to prepare a meal for us and it was out of this world. Antonio is an expert cook, and he prepared a meal of local fare that we will never forget, and it was at a bargain to boot!

We had an amazing visit to this region of Italy. Following Fabiana Antonio instructions we sow Lucca, Sarzana, Montemarcello, Le Cinque Terre, Carrara, Pisa etc. Our day trip to the outlets at Serravalle was a waste- but that’s what they said it would be! Meat dinner at la Brace- Fabiana Antonio are the most gracious hosts. They far surpassed our expectations and yet unobtrusive. The tranquility and serenity from the terrace was perfect. There is no better place to enjoy a glass of wine! All in all, it was a relaxing week! Off to Umbria for another week of Italy. If our villa there is only half as wonderful as here, our last week will be amazing. Many thanks Fabiana & Antonio

Expectation isn’t often exceeded but Antonio, Fabiana & Gardenia certainly have. Our hosts and their home are gracious beyond belief and we could not have had a better time. The best part are all the “secret” great places, sights, food, etc. that Antonio suggest. This was “real” Italy, and we loved it. Our thanks again to our wonderful hosts- we will try to come back!

The came as strangers and leave as family! The beauty of this lovely spot was well worth the stress of finding Villetta Gardenia and way beyond our expectations! Every detail was thought of to ensure our comfort and the surrounding scenery was too beautiful, but nothing has exceeded the warmth of our hosts! We look forward to seeing you all again!

Francesca Just a short note to say that we had a fantastic time, apart from some very English weather. Fabiana and Antonio were the perfect hosts, as was their very beautiful daughter, who acted as our translator. Superb location, beautiful accommodation. The high spot was a visit to one of Antonio’s restaurant recommendations in Sarzana, I think I can say it was the best meal I have ever eaten. Regards

Francesca, We had an unbelievable time in Liguria. We will indeed write a review on your site, as well as on slow travel. Lots of photos to share, too. Thank you for your assistance with our trip and accommodations. We’re already thinking about our next trip to Italia and will certainly look to Sea and Country Villas for assistance on our next excursion. Ciao

Villetta Gardenia is a very comfortable and lovely accommodation. It is suitable for two couples or a family of four. It has two beautifully appointed bedrooms both with bath and AC, an open, airy and well stocked kitchen and an lovely outdoor sitting area adjacent to the spa hot tub where you can enjoy the magnificent views of the valley below and the Mediterranean in the distance. It also has a sauna in the upstairs bath, as well as, a small terrace off the first floor bedroom. The well maintained grounds are covered with many flowering plants and olive trees.. Fabiana and Antonio, the owners, are very warm and very friendly people. They are very gracious hosts, were attentive to our needs, very helpful in answering questions and in pointing out good places to visit and good local restaurants. Antonio, on several, occasions, actually had us follow him on his motor bike as he personally showed the way to a restaurant in Sarzana. The Villeta is an exceptional venue to explore the entire Ligurian coast from La Spezia to Portofino. It is especially well situated for visiting the Cinque Terra. In addition you can also easily travel south to Pisa and to the walled city of Lucca in an hour or so away, depending on traffic, of course. While a car is a necessity, you are also very close to the train station in Carrara where you can quickly, and inexpensively, travel all along the entire coast by train. Since the Villeta is situated in the hills right above Carrara you can make a day trip to visit the marble quarries and the marble mine. It is also a short car drive to the lovely mountain top villages of Ortonovo and Nicola, to the city of Sarzana and the sea coast village of Boca di Magra. There are many good restaurants in the area serving great food and local wines, as well as, Ligurian specialties and wonderful seafood. All of this would not have been possible were it not for Francesca from Sea and Country Villas. She was extremely attentive to our needs and requests. On a business trip to Milan in early June, Francesca very graciously agreed to meet me at the Villeta and to provide me with a tour of the property which we had only seen on the internet. She made sure everything was in place before we arrived and checked up on how everything went after we returned home. We are very grateful to Francesca for her excellent customer service, her attention to detail and her warm and friendly personality.

“Ideal Place for a Perfect Italian Vacation” The villa itself has 2 spacious and airy bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and air conditioning. The kitchen has all the amenities – dishwasher, washer and dryer- and is well stocked with both dinnerware and food. The furnishings are comfortable and inviting, and the villa is clean and well-maintained. The outdoors includes a jacuzzi, patio and a gazebo along with beautiful landscaping and flowers. The views are spectacular, and the atmosphere is quiet and serene. It is the perfect setting for two couples or a family. Our hosts, Antonio and Fabianna were incredibly gracious and friendly. They were warm and inviting making sure to provide for our every need – whether giving restaurant recommendations, looking up local weather reports, or traveling to three different stores to find duct tape to repair our luggage. This couple was entertaining – language was no barrier- and frequently shared food, desserts and drinks with us. Their hospitality was unmatched. Renting a car is a good idea as it is an easy drive to Pisa, Florence, and the beach resort towns of Lerici and Porto Venere. It is in close proximity to La Spezia where you can take a train to Cinque Terra; Carerra and the marble quarries are nearby as is the “designer flea market” at Forte dei Marmi. This villa allowed us to feel immersed in the Italian culture and all it had to offer. We could not have had a better experience. We would highly recommend this villa to anyone

“Superb villa, beautiful setting, great hosts.” We were completely blown away by the quality of the accommodation and the hospitality of Antonio and Fabiana – the photos on the website don’t begin to do the villa and gardens justice. We arrived to a kitchen full of fresh provisons and home cooked food and the owners were always available to give helpful advice on local trips. We loved the jacuzzi, the sauna, the well equipped kitchen and the beautiful setting among the olive trees on the hillside. The family loved it and we hope to return soon

“Looks and feel of a 5 star boutique hotel” We had a wonderful week ( toooo short) in the beautiful villetta Gardenia. Our positive astonishments began straight upon arrival: what a beautiful place, what a charming location and what a warm welcome from the owners . We felt directly a la casa !! Antonio had prepared us a super apperetivo, platters full of typical Italian starters. We ate 2 days from this feast. It is good to have the owners nearby although you hardly see them as they totally respect your privacy. They gave us plenty of super tips about the best pitoresque restaurants and quiet beaches. We can recommend this place to everybody . Just go and enjoy. Grazie mille Fabiana et Antonio !
