Comfortably sleeping four people, this old Tuscan farmhouse has been tastefully restored and converted into an exquisite little villa, set like a natural gemstone in 35,000 square metres of magnificent, luxuriant gardens. These host hundreds of varieties of Mediterranean flowers, which thrive among the lush ‘maquis’ vegetation, with its typical holm-oaks and pine trees. All are lovingly tended by the property-owner herself and come magically into bloom as early as February, thanks to the exceptionally mild local micro-climate.
Likewise encompassing the property-owner’s lovely private residence, located a few metres away, this leafy parkland lies in the very heart of the Versilia coastal region, an area that inspired Puccini’s timeless melodies and which is also famed for its unspoilt sandy beaches.
The villa’s graceful wrought-iron entrance gates face inland towards the spectacularly white, jagged peaks of the Apuan Alps mountain-range, while its idyllic pool – open all year round – nestles enticingly amid the relaxing greenery of shady trees and manicured lawns just in front of the house.
ACCOMMODATION
The villa, whose outside walls are washed in a delicate pale yellow, enjoys utmost privacy and seclusion, as the vast grounds which surround it are screened at their perimeter by high trees and by walls topped with climbing jasmine.
The property extends over two storeys and is furnished throughout with an eye for elegant simplicity, as follows:
From the garden at ground-floor level there is direct access to the spacious, combined living/dining room. This features attractive tiled floors; white ceiling and walls (with original, colourfully-painted motifs); two comfortable sofas; coffee tables; a dining table with seating; a TV and hi-fi with CD-player.
Leading open-plan off this dayroom is a fully fitted and equipped kitchen alcove, incorporating bright windows above the sink units. A service bathroom, with toilet and handbasin, is also located downstairs.
Without doubt, the most seductive asset of the main dayroom are its double picture-windows, overlooking a beautiful stretch of lawn, and their adjacent double, glass, patio doors, which jointly infuse the whole space with light and serve to integrate the natural beauty of the outdoor surroundings into your indoor living environment! What’s more, the glass doors open on to an out-of-this-world, terracotta-tiled, side patio, shaded by a sloping, loggia-style roof, beneath which flourishes a superb rambling wisteria, whose prolific blossoms fill the air with sweet perfume. This patio adjoins the pool terrace and also accommodates an outside kitchen, with barbeque, wood-burning pizza oven, ancient stone sink and a long, white, Carrara-marble dining table. What more romantic venue than this to indulge in leisurely al fresco dining?
An easy interior staircase then proceeds to the upper floor and the following rooms:
A rear double bedroom, under the beamed/tiled pitched roof, whose bed can be separated into twins on request and where a pretty ‘porthole’ window forms a special, eye-catching design-feature; the double, master bedroom, likewise under the beamed/tiled pitched roof with ceiling-fan, and with a colourful arras displayed above the bedhead. From here bright French windows lead out to a delightful, sunny balcony, appointed with garden furniture and affording splendid, top-floor views of the pool and the peaceful gardens. On this floor there is also a rustic-style, fitted bathroom with shower.
THE GROUNDS
The exceptionally extensive yet sheltered grounds which surround this villa offer unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation, where undisturbed privacy and tranquillity are guaranteed. A private, open-air tennis court and five-aside soccer pitch encourage fitness enthusiasts to keep in trim during their vacation, while tempting sunloungers, shaded by a row of trees bordering the pool terrace, invite them to relax and unwind after their strenuous exertions!
The luxurious jacuzzi pool occupies an ideal, suntrap position to the front of the house and integrates a separate children’s paddling-corner within the main section. Its mellow terracotta-tiled surround is dotted with large, brightly planted ceramic pots and encircled in turn by meticulously tended lawns, graced by evergreen olive trees and a host of other mature native species.
Shading a pathway in the back garden, a romantic arched pergola supports a floribunda rambling rose, whose vibrant red perfectly complements the cream-flowering, deliciously sweet-scented jasmine that climbs in such lavish profusion over the house itself.

On request, dinner can be prepared for you and then served outdoors on the covered patio or around the swimming pool.
The following are all at the guests’ disposal: a mobile phone; embroidered towels; beach towels for poolside use.

Owing to the villa’s ideally strategic location, all the main attractions of historic, cultural and scenic interest in both Tuscany and Liguria are within easy reach. These include the following unmissable destinations:
Pietrasanta, historic and artistic capital of the Versilia region, renowned for its shops selling sculpture and statues (5 mins by car); Forti dei Marmi (5 mins by car); the popular seaside resort of Viareggio (10 mins by car); the splendid Tuscan cities of Lucca (15 mins), Pisa (20 mins) and Florence (45 mins); the famous Carrara quarries, source of all Michelangelo’s extraordinary white marble (20 mins); the spectacular Cinque Terre fishing villages and nature reserve; the Gulf of Poets; Portovenere; the exclusive seaside resort of Portofino; the major port of Genoa, historic Ligurian capital and birthplace of Christopher Columbus.
The sophisticated beaches of the Versilia coastline are conveniently accessible on foot from here, just 500 metres away.
Regular daily ferry services to all the above coastal destinations operate from the nearby harbour of Marina di Pietrasanta (1 km away).
Every summer, the Versiliana Park (100 metres away), which Villa I Gelsomini once formed part of, plays host to the ‘Versiliana Festival’, featuring national premières of theatre and dance, as well as photographic, art and statue/sculpture exhibitions.
